September 25, 2007 and the day is done for us now. After this mornings bitching I did we all left for Fortress of Louisbourg. Cool and windy day so it was a long pants day, I had on shorts to begin with then changed at the last minute when Lee had said someone had told him that it was like 10 degrees colder where we were going compared to where we are camping at. Thank goodness I listened, I would have froze. It still was a pretty day but this evening, now that we are back home, it is raining. OK, enough of the weather report, I guess I'm just looking at getting a new job.
The Fortress of Louisbourg was really something to see, very interesting, but it was built by the French and they are a, sorry to say, stupid group of people. When it was built they put all the canons on the water side so when the British, in 1745, attacked on land the French were history. In 1748-49 the British gave the Fortress back to the French for exchange for other land because the area was really too cold for the Brits. In 1758 the Brits decided they wanted the Fortress back again and the stupid French had only put a few guns on the land side but it wasn't enough so the Fortress was taken over again. In 1760 the Brits this time blow up the Fortress before giving it back to the French again in 1768. In 1928 the fortress is proclaimed a National Historic Site then in 1961 it was reconstructed to 1/5 of its original size.
OK so now you have had a short history lesson of the Fortress of Louisbourg.
After that we came back to the coach for the evening and started packing up things, Dave, Valley and I leave tomorrow for Medway, Maine for a few days. We will meet back up with Lee, Vicki and Fleetwood in Saint Andrews on Monday.
Pictures are posted already before I even did the blog.
